What is a good replacement for FeedBurner RSS?

RSS to eMail

Why replace FeedBurner RSS service?

While many of the core features remain intact Google is getting rid of many features that help publicize and optimize feeds. The most important feature to be trimmed is the ability to subscribe to feeds via email. This means if you have a large following you'll need to migrate them to another service. All these changes are coming in July 2021, that leaves little time to prepare and find the best solution for your blog. If you only use RSS to syndicate content across the web or allow users to read via feed readers then you may choose to simply stick with FeedBurner. However, it never hurts reassess the situation periodically to see if there's a better  option available to grow your business.

Top FeedBurner Alternatives for Bloggers

  • Follow.it is a freemium service that combines the power of feed readers, an RSS directory, and email subscription capabilities. Like many of these types of services the free version limits you in some ways most notably you're only allowed 5 feeds per account and you don't get access to the directory listings. However, it is important to note that the free plan remains free no matter how many subscribers you have. The paid version is based off of how many subscribers you have to your feeds. For example, 1,000  subscribers runs about $7.50 per month. The more subscribers you have the less you'll pay per subscriber. The great thing about this service is that it is very versatile and allows your subscribers to decide the frequency and format of their updates. This means that users will be more engaged and likely to interact with your content. This service also integrates with email subscriptions popups and forms in addition to one click subscriptions.
  • Mailchimp. While mailchimp isn't an RSS reader they do offer a very robust newsletter subscription service. One of the advantages of Mailchimp is that it gives you a lot of control over the look and feel of your newsletter with templates and custom coding. All of this can take a little getting used to, especially if your new to email marketing. Mailchimp has a free plan for lists smaller than 2,000 subscribers. The free plan includes landing pages, forms, thank you pages, and mini websites on the Mailchimp domain. The free plan however doesn't include an autoresponder for that service you have to upgrade to the next available tier starting at $9.95 per month.
  • FeedBlitz. This is another service that aims to combine the functionality of RSS feeds with email subscriptions and even an autoresponder. This means that feedblitz could be used to replace your entire email marketing system not just your RSS newsletters. Pricing is based on how many subscribers you have with no limit on the number of lists, tags, or feeds. For podcasters their are additional features to help them optimize their feeds for promotional purposes. A 500 person subscriber count will cost around $9 per month (FeedBlitz only counts unique and active subscribers.) Use the code Discount10 at checkout for a Free 15 Day Trial with a 10% discount.
While there are many services out there that can manage RSS to email newsletters these are the three that I would recommend to someone who was previously using FeedBurner. If you don't have a list yet I would try one of the freemium services, even though you won't have all the features you'll still have plenty of ways to grow your list. If you have a large list I'd recommend an all in one service like FeedBlitz. It is important to note that while FeedBurner is dropping some services it hasn't gone out of existence. It is still serving RSS feeds and syndicating content, there is no need to delete any of your feeds from FeedBurner or close your account.
